Writing contest: Nature's Refugee - Aditya Aryasomayajula (Age 12)

Nature's Refugee

Nature’s present and I see a lot,
Warmth and beauty are hard to spot,
But so evident together in here,
Calm and peace is crystal clear,
The sky seems to bring no rain,
This homeland gives peace to my brain.

I could rest here and stare all day,
Bathe in the river, smile and pray,
I throw some pebbles in the lake,
They skip along, drift and shake.

Animals here could graze and grow,
In complete harmony you should know,
For peace always contains joy,
Those brotherly animals could happily enjoy,

A flame burns away in my heart,
I wish to quickly leave and depart,
This place has been seized from me,
A king has caused my desperate plea,
I do not have the strength to fight,
But of my tales I must write.

But do not fret, I will be back,
When this army cannot attack,
I will restore the warm breeze,
The blue sky and banana trees.
The sun shall gleam with beauty again,
Whatever it takes – joy or pain.
